By the union in one corporate body through tho joint-sto-jk principle of the ownership of all these factors, it will be possible to distribute to all and to each a just proportion of realised wealth. To owners of land assigned to the association beyond a sum equal to a fair rent upon it3 unimproved value; to owners of capital beyond the current rate of interest upon money; and to owners of labour beyond the payment of current wages, th-re should be given that proportion of the surplus created wealth which is justly due to each respective class. We think there is much in what Mr. Rees puts forward that is well deserving of attention; but we are not yet satisfied that his remedy is a practicable one, even if its theoretical sufficiency be admitted, and we shall await with interest the result of the steps which, we understand, he is taking!o test the truth of his principles by reducing them to practice. CHARLES VII. The fourth volume of M. de Beaucourt's Hutoire de Charles VII. is fully equal in interest to the previous ones; it comprises the account of the events extending from the year 1444 to 1449--that is to say, what the author calls the expansion of the realm. Charles VII. is no longer the King of Bourges; he has concluded a treaty with the English--his old enemies--and he feels anxious now to restore France to its former prestige with the neighbouring countries. This fourth volume has for its appropriate introduction a kind of Universal Te Deum.
